HINETEIWAIWA WEAVING PRINT
Hine-te-iwaiwa is one of the most revered atua wāhine in te ao Māori, associated with childbirth, weaving, feminine knowledge, and sacred creation. She embodies the life-giving and creative power of wāhine across both physical and spiritual realms.
She is a guiding presence in moments of birth, transition, and transformation, often called upon for protection, strength, and support through pregnancy, labour, weaving, and wāhine wellbeing.
She represents the sacred thread that connects life, lineage, and creation across generations.
Hine-te-iwaiwa represents creation, embodiment, intuition, rhythm, connection, and sacred feminine intelligence.
She is the force of life being woven, where body, spirit, and whakapapa are intertwined into form.
In Māori tradition, Hine-te-iwaiwa is closely associated with childbirth, weaving, and the sacred practices of wāhine. She is regarded as a guardian and guide during pregnancy and labour, and is often invoked through karakia for protection, strength, and safe delivery.
She is also strongly connected to weaving traditions, representing not only the physical craft of weaving flax into garments and baskets, but also the metaphorical weaving of whakapapa, knowledge, relationships, and life itself.
Her presence is linked to lunar cycles and the rhythms of wāhine, reflecting the natural patterns of the body and the sacred timing of creation and birth.
Hine-te-iwaiwa reminds us to honour feminine cycles, creative power, and the deep intelligence of the body.
