Meet our founder, Chiante Shortland

Meet Chiante — a qualified Holistic Life Coach, Body-Mind Practitioner, and Matakite (seer), devoted to guiding wāhine back to themselves: their truth, power, and innate feminine essence. Born and raised in Aotearoa, New Zealand, with whakapapa (genealogy) to Ngāti Toa Rangatira and Ngāti Koata, her journey into this work was shaped through lived experience, generational healing, and a deep inner knowing that she was destined for more.

After moving through seasons of low self-worth, self-sabotage, toxic relationships, and escapism, Chiante began a journey of self-discovery that reconnected her to my body, intuition, and wairua.

Today, Chiante combines her natural gifts as a Matakite with Holistic Mind-Body Practices and Ancient Māori Rongoā (healing) to help wāhine transform from within, cultivate deep self-worth, embody their feminine energy, and become the woman they are truly meant to be.

Our Story

In 2025, Chiante found herself working in a toxic environment seven days a week while simultaneously building her small business. Caught in a cycle of striving and constantly feeling the pressure to figure it all out, she lived in a perpetual state of fight or flight. Disconnected from her body, she struggled with fertility challenges, chronic inflammation, exhaustion, and overwhelm. What she called productivity was, in truth, burnout.

Yet, beneath the exhaustion was a deeper calling. Chiante knew she was meant for more and felt guided to leave her job and fully step into her purpose. During this time, Te Ao Wāhine first came to her through a dream and later deepened through meditation. There, she felt the presence of Atua Wāhine calling her to create a space where their wisdom, guidance, and sacred feminine essence could once again be remembered and shared.

Inspired by the teachings of Atua Wāhine, Te Ao Wāhine was born from a desire to help women reconnect with wisdom that has, for many generations, become obscured through disconnection, colonisation, and the demands of a world largely shaped by masculine ways of being. Working alongside a Māori artist, Christine Rena, she is an Aotearoa based artist of Māori/British whakapapa that comes from a small hapū in Te Tai Tokerau. Her art is woven together with her personal journey and her connection to Te Ao Māori resulting in dreamy soulscapes that often feature mana wāhine and symbolism that transcends earthly space and time. These pieces were brought to life through sacred artworks created in honour of Atua Wāhine.

Today, Te Ao Wāhine exists as a space for healing, growth, and reconnection. It's mission is to revive the teachings of Atua Wāhine, awaken remembrance of the feminine essence, and support women in reconnecting with their intuition, inner wisdom, and authentic selves. Through feminine embodiment, holistic wellbeing, mātauranga māori, and ancestral wisdom, Te Ao Wāhine invites women to return home to themselves and remember the power they have always carried within.
